Defenses to Lawsuits
Once an individual is sued, he becomes a defendant and must defend himself against the plaintiff's allegations. Some defenses are simple. For example, if a homeowner is sued by a plumber for not paying the bill, his defense is "payment" and his proof is his cancelled check. In a slander or libel suit, truth is always a defense.
