Funeral Directive (IA)
A funeral directive specifies what should happen when you pass away. It provides valuable clarity to loved ones about your preferences. You can state:
- The location of any agreement for pre-arranged funeral services or products that you have entered into during your life.
- The location of any cemetery lot you have purchased or reserved for yourself.
- Your preferences about organ donation.
You cannot list your wishes about funeral services or products on this form. If you have particular wishes about what should happen to your remains or funeral arrangements, consider signing a pre-need funeral services agreement with your preferred funeral home or other funeral service provider. This will increase the likelihood that your wishes will be honored because they will already be paid for.
You will also appoint a designee to carry out your wishes. Your designee can make whatever arrangements they see fit. So, appoint someone you can tell your wishes to and can trust to follow your wishes.
