Weapons Possession

Carrying weapons, such as firearms, explosives and illegal knives into public places is generally prohibited. However, exceptions are provided for government officials, licensed carriers, hunters, members of the military and security guards. Laws prohibiting weapons possession also include prohibitions against silencers, certain types of ammunition and devices that dispense chemicals. Violations of weapons laws are felonies. Additionally, allowing a child access to a firearm without supervision by not properly securing it, is a misdemeanor violation in some states.
