Refunds

By law, taxpayers who are due a refund and filed their tax return by April 15 must receive the refund from the IRS by June 1. Taxpayers who receive late refunds are entitled to interest on the amount of the refund.

Can the IRS withhold my refund?

In many cases, the IRS can legally withhold the refund check. Taxpayers who owe child support, have defaulted on student loans or are paying back taxes under an installment plan can have their refund withheld to satisfy those outstanding debts.
